MOGADISHU (HOL) - Heavy fighting has erupted between government soldiers and Islamic militants in the area near Galgalato in north east of Mogadishu. The fighting erupted after militia loyal to Al-Shabaab attacked government military bases in and around Galgalato area.

Spokesman for the Al-Shabaab Movement Sheik Ali Mohamud Raage (Sheik Ali Dhhere) who after the fighting held a press conference said that their forces took over government bases in Galagalato and that their troops killed many government soldiers as well as capturing three armoured vehicles from the government.

“Al-Shabaab Mujaahidiin have carried out military operations in the areas between Galgalato and Eel Ade after we have received repeated complaints from people who travel on the coastal road that links Mogadishu to central regions” said Sheik Ali.

There are no reports from the government side on this yet. However, the latest report on the fighting say that the fighting has spread towards Keyseney hospital which is located in the north of Mogadishu. People we contacted in Keyseney hospital say that they hear the sound heavy artillery and small arms being exchanged by the two sides.

HOL is following the situation closely and will update its readers as soon as further information becomes available.
