MOGADISHU (HOL) - Somalia President Sheik Sharif Sheik Ahmed welcomed remarks made by President Obama during his visit to Ghana last week. In his speech in Accra, Ghana, Obama raised the humanitarian situation in Darfur, Sudan and the issue of Terrorism in Somalia. Obama’s speech in Ghana is widely seen as his administration’s policy framework for Africa,Obama called on the world community to assist in ending what he called the humanitarian crisis in Darfur and the problem of terrorism in Somalia. Obama added that if the world community does not deal with these crises they could get out of hand and spread to other regions of the world.
“I welcome the speech of President Obama to call on the world community to address the situation in Somalia because if the world community does not address the crisis in Somalia, it is very likely that the crisis will spread to other parts of the world” said the President of Somalia Sheik Sharif.
President Sharif also discussed the situation in Somalia and the groups that are waging war against his administration. He said that insurgents are opposed to peace and instability in Somalia. “They want to prevent the establishment of a government in Somalia and continue the chaos and instability in the country and this is not something the Somali people can tolerate any longer” said the President who added that, like the rest of the world, Somalis have a right live in peace and prosperity.
