Friday January 02, 2009 (HOL) - Ethiopian troops have killed ten civilians and wounded many more in the area near KM4 in southern Mogadishu. The troops fired at the civilians indiscriminately after they sustained casualties in a land mine while conducting military operations in the area.
The troops who killed the civilians came from a military base near Somalia Cinema on Makka Al-Mukaramma street. Merchants and shopkeepers on the street say that Ethiopian troops conduct military operations in the area on regular basis in search of land mines.
This was the first land mine explosion in months on the street although in the past land mine explosions occurred frequently some of which caused casualties among Ethiopian troops who use the street often.
The killing of the civilians in Mogadishu comes three days before the expected withdrawal date of Ethiopian troops from Somalia.
