SOMALIA will use its participation in the Shanghai 2010 World Expo to broaden its knowledge of urban development, the ambassador of the African country said yesterday during the signing of a participation contract with Expo organizers.Somalia, which is still working on the theme of its exhibition plan, views the Expo as an important opportunity to enhance its relationship with China and present itself to the world, Mohammed Awil, the country's ambassador to China and its deputy commissioner general for the Expo, told Shanghai Daily yesterday.
The Federal Republic of Somalia is the 91st country to sign a participation contract with the Expo organizers. It will present an exhibition in the Joint-Africa Pavilion with about 40 other African nations.
Also yesterday, 10 banks, including the China Development Bank and China Construction Bank, agreed to offer consortium lending valued at more than 13 billion yuan (US$1.9 billion) to the construction of two Expo-affiliate projects in Pudong.
The consortium, the biggest in Pudong in recent years, ensures the capital for the construction of the projects, which include a highway, and sets a sound basis for future bank-enterprise cooperation.
