MOGADISHU - A roadside bomb killed a Somali police commander in the
southern town of Merka today, the latest in a string of attacks on
government officials, witnesses and police said.
Deputy police chief for Lower Shabelle region Lieutenant Colonel Nuriye Ali Farah died after his vehicle hit a roadside bomb in Merka, about 100 kilometres south of the capital Mogadishu, they said. "His vehicle was targeted by this bomb that was exploded by a remote control," Idriss Abdulkadir, who witnessed the attack, said. Police officials in Merka confirmed the death.
