"There were many people shopping in the area when the explosion occurred," said Mustafa Mumin, a grocer at the market, where the attacked took place.
"I saw the four bodies and another had been picked before I arrived," he added.
"Three hand-grenade explosions occurred inside the market, killing five civilians," said Mohamed Ade, another witness. "I saw two men fleeing from the scene after the attack."
The explosions rocked the main market in town, where a grenade attack on Thursday killed four people.
A Baidoa hospital official said 16 people, including police officers had been taken for treatment there.
Grenade attacks have become frequent in Baidoa in recent months. The government blames Islamist insurgents for the attacks.
