In what can be considered a very busy evening, Police officers were called on to pacify four fights and disputes, getting assaulted, verbally abused, and spat on in the course of their duties.
At approximately half past one early Sunday morning, Police interviened to pacify an argument that occurred in front of the Marsa Open Centre, when a Somali man was drunk and began causing a public disturbance.

While police forces apprehended and detained the Somali man, three other immigrants attempted to assault the officers. Two of the men had blood stained clothes, however these refused medical assistance when the officers offered to call an ambulance to the site, and began threatening the police officers.

One of the three climbed on top of a police Squad car and began spitting on the police officers. The three immigrants were detained by Police to assist in the investigations.

Only minutes earlier, at 1:00 am police were called St. Julian’s to intervene in a fight between two men from Eritrea. One man, aged 25, was slightly injured in the fight which involved broken bottles. He was taken for medical treatment at a nearby health centre in Gzira. The men reside in B’kara and the Hal Far Tent Centre respectively.

In other incidents, a British man suffered slight injuries last night when he was assaulted by another British man and hit with a pointed instrument. The incident occurred in a bar in St. Paul’s Bay, police sources said.

Investigations revealed that a 17 year old British man assaulted the 38 year old barman of the bar. The 17 year old man was arrested and is assisting police with their inquiries, while the injured barman was taken to hospital in an ambulance which was called to the scene. He was certified to be only suffering from light injuries.

Additionally, Police also were called to intervene in a dispute that developed in St. Julian’s in front of a club, where a 26 year old man from the Ivory Coast was in a dispute with the bouncers of said club.

When police officers attempted to pacify the situation, the man began hurling verbal abuse at the officers, and attempted to physically assault them. He was detained and is assisting in police inquiries.
