The Eastern Africa Media Institute and Somalia media practitioners are asking the international community to help provide medical assistance to journalist Abdikahim Omar Jumaleh, whose left hand was injured in a shooting in Mogadishu on August 11, 2007.

Jumaleh received medical attention for three months at the Keysaney hospital in Mogadishu, but the hospital was not able to heal his wound due to poor health care.  On October 28, Jumaleh traveled to Nairobi to receive better care, and was admitted to the Kijabo hospital after Somali journalists raised money for his surgery.

Since his last operation, however, his injury has worsened and the Somalia media fraternity is calling for help.

For more information, contact Abdulkadir Mohamoud Walayo, Chairman of Eastern Africa Media Institute, through e-mail at [email protected] or visit http://www.arabpressnetwork.org/articlesprint.php?id=2321
