Mogadishu, Somalia (HOL): Heavy fighting where the opposing sides are using heavy weapons has just started at the Florenza intersection of the District of Wardhiigley, in Mogadishu. The fighting is between the Ethiopian and TFG troops on one side and armed militia opposed to them on the other side.
The fighting in which both sides are using heavy artillery started around 6:30PM, Somalia time. Among the weapons being used in the fighting are mortars, tanks, RPGs and various automatic machine guns.
It is not clear yet the number of casualties or the level of damages the fighting has caused. It is expected, however, that some of the heavy shelling that landed in areas near the fighting where civilians live will result in casualties. Particular areas that have come under heavy shelling include the zones of Geed Jecely (the love tree), Harr-yaale, and Sinai.
The sound of the rockets and artillery fire can be heard in areas that are very far from the zones where the fighting is going on.
This latest fighting comes after a similar fighting took place in the districts of Kaaraan and Huriwaa, particularly the subdivisions of Jamhuriya, Al-Adala, Sheik Ali Abdule and near the police station in the district of Huriwaa.
