Djibouti Peace Agreement a Step Towards Peace : Somali President

Mogadishu, Somalia (HOL) - The president of the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) of Somalia told the BBC that the recent peace agreement between the TFG and the Alliance for the Re-liberation of Somalia (ARS) is a step towards peace in Somalia.

“If the articles in the agreement are implemented, it will be a step towards peace in Somalia. The TFG is prepared to implement the agreement”, the president said.

The president said that  the TFG welcome peace and the resolving of the conflict through peaceful means. He added that those who want take power by the barrel of the gun will not succeed.

“Those who are confident that they have the support of the Somali people should abandon conflict and war and should prepare to participate in the upcoming elections in the country”, the president added.

When asked about the accomplishment of his government, the president responded that his government accomplished a lot and has a lot to do yet. “the TFG has accomplished a lot, but could not accomplish more due to the armed opposition it faced but we believe that if the war stops now we can accomplish a lot and that we can get the country to a stage where elections can take place”,  added the president while on an official visit to Djibouti.
