Mogadishu, Somalia (HOL) - Heavy fighting between the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) of Somalia and Ethiopian troops on one side and armed militia opposed to them on the other side has been reported this morning near the districts of Kaarana and Huriwaa of Mogadishu.

The fighting in which heavy weapons were used was concentrated in the sub-divisions of Al-Caddaala of Kaaraan District and parts of Huriwaa district such the police station and the market.

The heavy fighting erupted after Ethiopian troops set up bases last night at the Fagax intersection and have embarked on patrol missions this morning on a street that goes towards Jamhuriya subdivision where they encountered armed resistance.

It is not clear the casualties and damage the fighting has caused and it is difficult to find out in part because the areas where the fighting took place have been uninhabited since fall of the last federal government.
The latest reports we have received say that the areas where the fighting took place are now calm and the two sides have withdrawn to their respective bases.
