Somali MPs Condemn Recent Fighting in Beled Weyne

Mogadishu, Somalia (HOL) -  After holding two meetings in a week in Baidoa, some Transitional Federal Government (TFG) MPs who are from Hiiraan Region have condemned the recent fighting in the city of Beledweyne between Ethiopian troops and supporters of the Union of Islamic Courts (UIC).
 
The MPs said the two sides fought in an area populated by innocent and unarmed civilian and issued a strong statement condemning both sides in the fighting. The MPs who issued the statement are Ali Abdullahi Osoble, Mohamed Husein Rage, Mohamed Husein Adow, Asho Abdulllahi Ise and Zeinab Mohamed Amir.
 
In their statement, the MPs held responsible the people who attacked the city, whom, as the MPs put it, claim to originate from the region for the hardship and suffering the city’s residents experienced as a result of the fighting.
 
MP Asho Abdullahi Ise said that the people who suffered most as a result of the fighting are civilians most of whom are women, children and elderly who still face hardships.
 
The MPs also called on the aid agencies to help the people who were affected by the fighting particularly people who were displaced as a result of the fighting.
