Windsor police have received an anonymous tip that fugitive murder suspect Mohamud Abukar Hagi could be headed toward Calgary.

Windsor police Staff Sgt. Norm Burkoski said police have also learned that Hagi may be travelling with other people.

Hagi is wanted for the Dec. 22, 2007 murder of Luis Acosta-Escobar outside the Box Office after-hours bar in Windsor.

Police have said Hagi is of Somali descent. There are large Somali communities in Edmonton, Calgary and Fort McMurray, Burkoski said.

He said police have received 18 tips from the public regarding Hagi. The website Windsor police have posted giving details about the fugitive and his alleged crime -- www.mohamudhagi.com -- has received about 6,500 hits.

Hagi has not been spotted in Fort McMurray, as other media have reported, Burkoski said.
