Somalia: Intense Fighting in Mogadishu Kills 5

Mogadishu (Angola Press)  - Fierce battles erupted in parts of Somalia`s capital Mogadishu on Tuesday after Somali troops attempted to conduct search operations, witnesses said.

The fighting was concentrated in the district of Daynile, in the outskirts of south Mogadishu.

Ethiopian troops are in Somalia to aid the govt At least five civilians were killed and four others wounded in the crossfire between Somali troops and insurgents, witnesses and medical staff reported.

The fighting lasted for more than two hours and gradually spread into surrounding neighborhoods, including the Gupta area.

There was no confirmed report on casualties suffered by the warring sides.

In Mogadishu`s Huriwa district, heavy fighting erupted Tuesday afternoon at the livestock market.

At least one woman was wounded in the fighting between allied Somali-Ethiopian troops and insurgents, witnesses said.
