Fatima Jibrell, co-producer and screenwriter for CHARCOAL TRAFFIC www.charcoaltraffic.com, co-founder of Sun Fire Cooking www.sunfirecooking.com has been awarded the prestigious 2008 National Geographic Society/Buffett Award for Conservation in Africa, for her many years of struggle against the illicit charcoal trade which is destroying the fragile semi-arid Somali environment and the pastoral way of life.

The short film CHARCOAL TRAFFIC is an example of Fatima’s dedication and vision. CHARCOAL TRAFFIC is a global first – a short story of two brothers trapped in a murderous cycle of environmental and cultural devastation in Somalia. Fatima is showing CHARCOAL TRAFFIC to villagers in Somalia to provoke discussion about the destruction caused by charcoal and the alternative of solar cookers for household use.

Fatima is a global leader for peace, human rights and the environment. Hot Sun Films/Foundation is proud to be associated with Fatima.

CONGRATULATIONS to our dear friend and colleague, Fatima Jibrell.
