Mogadishu, Somalia (HOL) -  The Prime Minister of Somalia’s Transitional Federal Government (TFG) Mr. Nur Hasan Husein (Nur Ade) has stated that he has no plans to resign over the current row with the President of TFG Mr. Abdullahi Yusuf regarding the dismissal of the Mayor of Mogadishu Mr. Mohamed Omar Habeb (Mohamed Dhere).

When asked by the British Broadcasting Corporation’s (BBC) Somali language services about information regarding possible resignation of some members of his cabinet, the Prime Minister said that none of his cabinet members submitted their resignation to him.

“I heard about the news that some cabinet ministers resigned but our office has not yet received any resignation letters” said the Prime Minister who added that the rumors about the resignations include his name among those who are resigning.

Moreover, the Prime Minister said that he has no plans to resign from his post and that the rumors about the resignation of some cabinet members in his government are aimed at destabilizing the government, creating insecurity and slowing or stopping the current reconciliation process. The Prime Minister also added that he does not believe that his government will collapse.

This morning 10 cabinet members announced in Mogadishu their resignation from cabinet. Some of the cabinet members who resigned are in Somalia and others are outside the country and reportedly sent their resignations via e-mail.

The cabinet members who announced their resignation said their resignation came as a result of the government’s financial mismanagement, the unconstitutional dismissal of the mayor of Mogadishu and the fact that the government has not tabled a single budget in the Parliament since it establishment.

The news about the resignation of the cabinet comes a day after 32 MPs called on the government to resign and at a time when there is disagreement between the President and the Prime Minister.

Sources close to the Prime Minister’s office have informed us that the Prime Minister is planning the replace the ministers who have resigned but that would require the approval of the President but the two men are in disagreement over the dismissal of Mogadishu’s mayor.

The ministeries who have resigned include:

Salim Aliow Ibrow, Minister of Justice who also Deputy of Prime Minister
Aided Abdullahi Ilka Hanaf, Minister of Education who also Deputy Prime Minister
Muhiyadin Mohamed H. Ibrahim, Minister of Defense
Hussein Elabe Fahiye, Minister of Commerce and Tourism
