NEWARK -- Ilays, Somali multicultural artists, will arrive in the area Monday for a weeklong Midwest World Fest residency supported by Arts Midwest.

The festival is a cultural exchange program that uses music and performance art to foster appreciation for diversity and an acceptance of other cultures.

The group will perform at The Midland Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 4. Their concert will feature a mix of music, poetry, dance and stories, drawing from traditional and contemporary Somali culture. Concert tickets are $5 for students and $7.50 for adults. A pre-show community dinner will be served at 6 p.m. Nov. 4 at The Place Off The Square's Café Restaurant, 50 N. Second St., downtown Newark, with a Somalian-inspired menu. Dinners are $14 for adults and $8 for children 12 years and younger. Dinner reservations must be made by calling The Midland no later than Nov. 1.

A public reception will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 1 at the Newark Public Library, 101 W. Main St., Newark, to welcome the group and celebrate the opening of a photography exhibition that will be on display Monday through Nov. 5. The exhibition is free.
