OTTAWA, Nov. 8 /CNW/ - The Honourable John Manley is travelling in Kenya with CARE Canada. He will visit the Dadaab refugee camps on Thursday, November 9, to witness firsthand the crisis that is brewing as thousands of Somali refugees cross into the North East Kenyan region.More than 160,000 refugees now live in the camps and numbers are increasing daily. CARE Canada manages the three camps in the regions, which, until recently, saw up to 1,000 new refugees crossing the border a day. The vast majority of new arrivals are women, children and youth, and many of them
are malnourished and traumatized from the long journey.
Mr. Manley, member of the CARE Canada Board of Directors, will meet with some of the refugees who have recently fled Somalia for the Dadaab refugee camps.
