Caraweelo, I truly NEVER understand your messages since they have no point whatsoever. It is one thing to NOT-LIKE certain groups but to always talk negative about your WONDERFUL religion or support EVI**L instead of good is a shameful*l thing. What is your argument here? Are you suggesting alcohol is HALAL? Or are you simply saying it is HARAM but it is okay to sell it? You are reminding me of someone who told me once “I am a cook and sometimes cook PORK, but I don’t talk it with my hands but use GLOVES.” Allah says we are the best nation because we spread good and not promote evil. So, STOP arguing for the sake of argument and acknowledge what 90% of the Muslims here agree which is we don't see accomplishments from what this WANNABE …and that HOL is wrong in promoting this EVI*LL in our Muslim society.

HOL is responsible in some ways if ignoran*t Muslim starts such evil BUSINESS after reading this USELES*S article. There are plenty of ways to make money and obviously this isn’t one of them!
    nargale @ 2/23/2008 10:49 PM EST
I stiil don`t understand what was the point of this article!
    Arraweelo10 @ 2/23/2008 3:08 PM EST
What else Marco could do quit his job, go to Mogadishu and sell weapons in Bakaraha, that sounds lucrative business, but is it Haram or not.
    Syad_Xusen @ 2/23/2008 10:05 AM EST

Is he by any chance related to Ayan Hirsi, Ina Yey Xaran, Waris Diriye or any other who has
betrayed religion and heritage. Won't be susrprised if he is.
    Camel Girl @ 2/23/2008 3:56 AM EST
“What Is In a Clan Name?”  Why are the Somalis not keen on the subject? In addition, how comebacks used just get used? Come home it is rocky and dirty world add the big gun just wins with a shame world used.

    sheikhuna @ 2/23/2008 3:19 AM EST
Asalamu aleykum warahmatulah. My brothers and sisters in Islam I have to say that if HOL is fine in posting such an article, then I would just remind them that our beloved ulamas like Umar Faruq, Sheikh Mohamed Umal, sheikh mustafa could be disappointed for they travel from far distances only to come to Europe to preach against the Haram wine and fasahad associated with it.Allah SCW is never happy with those who spread fisq
    Ado81 @ 2/23/2008 12:29 AM EST
SELLING ALCOHOL is not a succeess story and HOL should look into what it posts. MUSLIM rather die poor than earn money in unreligious means like selling wine.. Shanta its true Islam is not about Abu 'this'or that '''' But be careful dont let the Tribal or Opinion Grudges with ICU or Al Shabaab edge you into being a soft spot for Anti-Islamic deeds.
    Wiil Isxaaq @ 2/22/2008 7:38 PM EST
 Actually, he cleverer man.
He use to be a Koran teacher in Dhagahbur before he left the city of Berbera for ME.
    shanta @ 2/22/2008 5:30 PM EST
Marco, with his characteristic big smile, stands up from time to time to check that his patrons are enjoying their meal, that a wine glass is topped up here and there. A native of Somalia born in Ethiopia, he came to Calgary in 1980 and once worked as the janitor of a professional building which is right across the street from where his restaurant is now located. He smiles while thinking back about those days.
“It started with friendship first (with the Royal Family in the UAE) and then we became family.”
    xumoow @ 2/22/2008 5:18 PM EST
Marco's success or failure lacks authenticity. There is nothing black about the name Marco. We should celebrate black month with success stemming from "Proud black hearts and skin"
    Arraweelo10 @ 2/22/2008 4:46 PM EST
I guess some of the guys in here who object the success of Marco, who are pen warlords and religous pretenders. Their objection might be based on jealousy against Marco being good looking man + succesfull.
    shanta @ 2/22/2008 4:05 PM EST
Then let’s go stone Marco for selling wine. I’m responsible for my own deeds and one else’s. But if it’s any relief to any one-I do go to dahbshil every week and send money to Al-Haram movement so that I can monitor my investments through HOL pages everyday, to see how many innocent Muslims have perished. Many silent partners in this havoc machine are always quick to condemn others for not being righteous!
    hararez @ 2/22/2008 3:39 PM EST
I dont blame HOL for posting this neither do I believe they did so for promotional purpose. They simply posted it because he is is carrying a somali origin, just like ayan hersi and any other converted. Carlo Abdi!!!! what a business minded. I am not wondering about this business maddened guy but i am wondering about those who advocate for any type of evil here in this forum. Arawela, shanta etc must be suffering from a monomoniac dellusion
    ali812 @ 2/22/2008 3:19 PM EST
We simply cannot promote such a person as a success.  It should actually be
used as a classic example of how one can turn out if he or she forsakes
their religion and culture.  The man is posing by wine bottles with a big grin
on his face.  We should unanimously condemn this photo and this article for what it
is.  And that is a discrace.

I leave you with one last question Bootaan, shanta, arawello etc...If you have children
and they went into business to profit from alcohol and changed their muslim name would you
congratulate them for it?  If not, then stop playing the devils advocate promoting
nonesense on this site.
    Arraweelo10 @ 2/22/2008 2:22 PM EST
Guys who are using multiple aliases are annoying the hell out of me.  Just be yourself.
    ourenemy @ 2/22/2008 2:04 PM EST
Making money by selling alchohol is NOT an accomplishment at all. Islam teaches us, Allah has created us to worship Him so if one doesn't do that in this world, and instead deals with evil things then that obvisouly is not an achievement. We also learn from our religion to spread good & avoid evil. So, what HOL is doing is the opposite and obviously some of you think that it is cool to GO AGAINST ALLAH & his message.

Note, this is a temporary world, and hereafter is the real deal. So, my message to you all is focus what is important.

My Allah guide us all to the true path and make us those that spread good & not evil (amin).
    Arraweelo10 @ 2/22/2008 12:32 PM EST
Impressive!!!. I am realy very proud of Marco Abdi and our sister Hinda Abdullahi. They succeeded in their chosen fields, it is something to celebrate.

Coming back to the critics in here, I think your complain of bottle of wine pictured with Marco Abdi is overly rated, but hyporitically if he had A'K'4'7 and he was murde'rer, you would be celebrating!!!.
    fiqicigaal @ 2/22/2008 12:26 PM EST
Here we come again ! it is time we stop making a mountain out of a mole and learn how to wish good luck to those who made it and stood out against all odds in a cruel world where a black person must work twice than their white counter parts to make ends meet . I would rather congratulate my fellow successful somalis for their acheivments and wish them happiness  than condemn them for a simple nick name they chose for some reason or other
    bootaan @ 2/22/2008 12:14 PM EST
You need to focus on the positives here. Good work ethics and desire to success are important in these parts of the world. Also, you are not giving credit to Somalis if you think they will start drinking because HOL is posting a GOOD NEWS article about this man and his business. And by the way, Somalis are doing far more worse things than drinking.
    shanta @ 2/22/2008 12:05 PM EST
C’mon now-nicknames has sprung out lately like a wild mushroom, especially with young generation! However it doesn’t signify one’s belief? Is due to name commonality, friends usually pick a nickname for you-or in this case it justifies name application; here you have an Italian restaurant owned by a Somali; who by the way understands business concept very well.

    Gaadh-haye @ 2/22/2008 12:01 PM EST
His picture next to the whine says all than we can write on hundred pages. What a pathetic loser! Aduunkan kumeelgaar ah ayuu Aaakhirada lagu waari ku doorsaday.
    ourenemy @ 2/22/2008 11:58 AM EST
I agree 100% with Kurus & adamjama. I REALLY don't understand what happened to HOL? I understand they are making money for all of these postings but you have to have morale and make money in a "HALAL" way. Advertising HARAM isn't the way to make money and in fact you will be getting SINS from it.

So, my message to HOL is fear Allah and stop these evil postings of people who many Somalis can't stand!

Somalis: We may want to boycott HOL because of its evil doing and promoting KHANIIS one day & another Alchohol!
    bootaan @ 2/22/2008 11:26 AM EST
Shanta, I agree with you that 'Abu this' and 'Abu that' are exactly the same as using christian or atheist names. Good point
    adamjama @ 2/22/2008 10:55 AM EST
The issue is not criticizing somebody for the sake of criticizing but understanding the logic behind changing one's Somali name. You can be a Christian or an Atheist like Ayan Hersi for all I care but what is wrong with Bootaan Abdi the Christian , Shanta Abdi the Atheist, or Dhoore Abdi the Satanist. At least he left the middle name alone which is something to celebrate for now.
    shanta @ 2/22/2008 10:41 AM EST
We have become judgmental and temperamental! I have seen people who use nick names such as Maradona Isse, Franco Jimcale, Poalo Rossi, Abdi Al Gore and so many more, and I don’t think that they are sellout to the religion compare to Abu this & Abu that.
    bootaan @ 2/22/2008 9:51 AM EST
Congrats to both Hindi and Marco Abdi. They are indeed success stories in our community. They struggled to overcome barriers rather than give up. They are examples for our youth. They can tell them that despite systemic racism and injustice, you can succeed in this country. They can tell our youth that they need not pay attention to people with rigid and backward views like Kurus and others with slave mentality.
    kurus @ 2/22/2008 7:43 AM EST
SCW, i do not think it is wise to promote a non-muslim somali brother for his achievement.
It is said, the one who drinks alcohol, serves alcohol or is in an evironment of alcohol are all getting the same sins written for them.
So HOL, next time think about the hereafter and the wrath of Allah, do not promote ppl who have not only deserted Somalia (ie Marco!!!) but also Allah, for the ways of this world.
Long live Somalia, may Allah protect us from the evil hearted ones.  Amiin!! Amiin!!
