Dacar Xersi Xooshow

The murder of a renowned Somali elder, Dacar Xirsi Xooshow, is another proof that politically organized crime is thriving well in Somalia.  Perhaps this is the gravest threat that surpasses far beyond traditional tribal vendetta. These organized crimes exist in and operate in most prominent cities in Southern Somalia under the people’s noses.

It is an ethos that is criminal and too cowardly even to recognize its self-destructive oddity that astonished every citizen.  Their ideologies are fonts of ignorance, criminality and pursuance of an immoral act. It is the work of destructive minds that are taking us to believe that something alien in our society is behind these actions.

Dacar (may Allah give him mercy) was a man of peace who kept in step with changing and difficult times in Somalia, particularly in Hiiraan.  He appealed to conflicting parties via negotiations and mutual understanding.  He was a man who lately hinted the grave threat to peace and security posed by a cult of killers who hide among the society. The actions of this cult has set new dimensions with its hands widening from killing politicians, businessmen, journalists, religious leaders, teachers, and prominent elders.  To the eyes of these criminals good and bad are indistinguishable.  They are now holding the neck of the society to challenge anyone who dares to defy them.

The unexpected and astonishing assassination of Dacar Xirsi Xooshow and many other elders blew spontaneous waves of shock throughout Somalia.   The syndicates of these crimes took the lives of the most prominent and most valuable personalities of the society to generate a society that bows to underworld crime lords.  Why is difficult to uncover the identity of the conduits of this terror? How long will Somalis continue to tolerate hemorrhaging its best minds? How long will this bloody chapter of deceit and murders continue?

What is amazing is that the murder of Dacar Xooshow took place under the rule of the Islamic Courts Union in Beledweyne. The UIC should look into deficiencies of their power in this case and must clean up the swamp that is providing habitat for murderers who target the wise, the educated and the technocrat that Somalia badly needs.  Dacar was a leader lost to an organized crime. The courts must advocate justice and make arrests as soon as possible or else they could be perceived as an accessory to these killings.
