Mogadishu (HOL) – Heavy fighting between Somali security forces and al-Shabab erupted in Daru Nimca village in the Middle Shabelle region on Tuesday morning, according to residents.
The fight occurred when militants launched an attack, initiating heavy explosions on an army base followed by intense fighting. Both sides suffered casualties, although the official figures are unknown.
Somali government officials have not yet commented on the fighting.This fighting comes two days after at least 17 people were killed and others wounded in an attack by the Islamist group al-Shabaab on Busley, a military base in the Lower Shabelle region.
Seven Somali soldiers, including the base commander and ten al-Shabaab fighters, were killed in the fighting.
