Mogadishu (HOL)—Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abid Barre reiterated that the federal government is working on establishing electoral commissions for the upcoming elections to avoid political uncertainty.

Speaking at the annual joint iftar meeting of the government and the community in Mogadishu on Friday, Barre underscored the importance of enacting laws to guide the country's elections, thereby preventing political disputes. He also stressed that completing the provisional Constitution is a top priority.

"Tomorrow, with little time left, if we announce the appointment of an electoral commission, there may be political uncertainty as we have seen in the past. We must appoint an electoral commission now to prevent this scenario and ensure a smooth electoral process. Their task will be to facilitate the preparation of all parties involved, thus ensuring that the country can conduct its elections smoothly and punctually," he said.

The Prime Minister stated that completing the provisional Constitution, currently in the Federal Parliament of Somalia, is a collective priority for all Somali people and needs to be supported. He added that the Constitution is in safe hands and essential for allowing the responsible institutions to address major issues related to sovereignty, security, and development.

Meanwhile, Puntland again emerges as a center of opposition to Somalia's central government. It is worth noting that Puntland played a crucial role in opposing the previous government under Farmajo.

Former Presidents Sheikh Sharif, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, and Puntland's President Said Abdullahi Deni share a common stance against the proposed amendments to the Constitution. These leaders are expected to reach decisions regarding the constitutional changes in Garowe town this week.
