Hargeisa (HOL) - Somaliland security forces have detained Mohamed Hussein Habane, a singer from Jigjiga, under unclear circumstances in Hargeisa. Witnesses claimed that while Habane, also known as Mohamed Yare, was at a party with other musicians, armed soldiers forcibly took him away. Some of the musicians were reportedly tortured for questioning the arrest.

Najma Nashaad, a singer from Hargeisa, recounted the incident, stating that soldiers unexpectedly attacked and abducted Yare. She mentioned that several musicians were assaulted and threatened, expressing uncertainty about the rationale behind the arrest and denouncing it as unlawful.

Abdi Isse Ajun, who witnessed the arrest, described how the soldiers pointed guns at the singers who questioned Yare's detention. "We were outnumbered and overpowered. Despite our respect for the military and the government, we fear for the future of Somaliland's security if these actions go unaddressed," Ajun expressed.

Mohamed Ahmed Bakal Irro, also a witness, emphasized the disrespectful manner of Yare's arrest and noted that he remains in custody. The arrest has raised questions about the actions of Somaliland's security forces, and details of the arrest are still undisclosed.
