Mogadishu (HOL) - President of Somali region of Ethiopia Mustaf Mohamud Omar has extended a congratulatory message to Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud on his re-election bid as the President of the Federal Government of Somalia.
"On behalf of myself and the Government of Somali Regional State, I would like to send warm congratulations to the newly elected President of Somalia, H.E Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. May Allah helps him discharge the enormous responsibilities bestowed upon him", he said in a Facebook post.
Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud, who was voted out of power in 2017, was elected the President of Somalia after defeating the outgoing President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo in the run-off round of the voting late Sunday.
Hassan received 214, while Farmaajo was able to secure 110 votes. Sunday's poll marked the first time in Somalia that a former president was re-elected to lead the Horn of the Africa nation of 16 million.
Mustafa Omar acknowledged the outgoing President H.E Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo for his role in strengthening the brotherly relations between Somalia and Ethiopia.
