Garowe (HOL) - Puntland regional state parliament passed a vote of no-confidence in the appointment of new Puntland Supreme Court judges following a tense session in Garowe on Monday.
The new members, including their chairman, who President Said Abdullahi Deni recently appointed, were rejected by 23 out of 43 members of the parliament who attended the session, 11 voted in favor, and nine abstained.
President Said Abdullahi Deni reappointed the same members without any modification shortly after the rejection by the parliament, and he wants to take them to parliament for a vote of confidence. Still, it is unknown whether parliament will reject them again.
It is the first time that the Puntland parliament rejected the appointment of members of the Supreme Court, and this comes while the parliament and the chairman of the Puntland Supreme Court are at odds.
