MOGADISHU (HOL) - Former Banaadir regional police boss Sadaq John who the Federal Government fired in April, has resurfaced on the battlefield alongside Federal and State forces in Galmudug.

Sadaq John was sacked in April after ordering MPs to end proceedings on grounds their term in office had lapsed.

The lawmakers later passed a unilateral resolution to extend President Mohamed Farmaajo's term by two years, but lawmakers rescinded the offer after intense political pressure domestically and abroad.

Though the Federal Government has not spoken out about Sadaq John's fate since he left office, a Somali National Army commander confirmed John, who hails from Galmudug State, was part of the regiment fighting Al-Shabaab in the region.

"Sadak is among these commanders who are assigned to lead the operation. He is not part of the federal government forces, but he participates in the fighting individually," SNA regional commander Mohamed Tahlil Bihi said.

In a Facebook post, Galmudug security minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi confirmed that Sadaq took part in the fight with al-Shabaab fighters in Ba'adweyn.

"The fight against terrorism bridges political differences. If there is a disagreement, it does not mean that there is nothing else to be agreed upon."

It was not immediately clear if the former City police boss holds a leadership position in the military.
