MOGADISHU (HOL) - The regional bloc IGAD has called for reconciliation and dialogue in Galmudug but stopped short of endorsing the election of Ahmed Kariye Qoorqoor as the new state president.
“IGAD underscores the importance of preserving the stability of the State of Galmudug and safety of its people under a unified administration, governance and fidelity to the rule of law,” the statement read in part.
The bloc called on all parties in Galmudug to refrain from any acts of violence, resolve any differences through dialogue and prioritise peace building and reconciliation.
Noting it played a key role in which led to integration of Alhu Sunna into Galmudug state administration, the bloc commended the efforts of various actors adding, ‘We also take note of the holding of presidential election in Dhusamareb.’
The U.S embassy’s endorsement of Qoorqoor Sunday elicited mixed reactions with Somalis on social media accusing the embassy of being partisan in the Glamudug political process.
A former employee at Villa Somalia Ali Dahir Eid was elected deputy president.
