BELEDWEYNE (HOL) - The self-styled militia group, Ma’awisley killed five Al-Shabaab militants in an ambush in Hiiraan region Thursday morning.
According to Ma’awisley leader Ali Mohamed Istakin who spoke to local media, his fighters raided an Al-Shabab camp in El-Ali village leading to a clash which lasted for one hour.“We launched an offensive against Al-Shabaab fighters in El-Ali village and engaged them in a fierce fight forcing them to flee their base,” said said Istakin. “We recovered weapons and two vehicles.
Istakin said three of his men were injured in the clash.
Ma’awisley sprang up in Hiiraan and Middle Shabelle regions last year to counter Al-Shabaab rule in the regions. Somali army said it would support the group to reinforce the war against Al-Shabaab.
Its leader, Hibad Ali Dasar was killed by Al-Shabaab last October.98
