MOGADISHU (HOL) - A police officer found guilty of killing a civilian was handed death sentence Saturday by a military court in Mogadishu.
The court found Hassan Hussein Mohamed guilty of killing Istar Mohamed Abdulle on September 7 at a checkpoint in Mogadishu.
A second police officer-Hassan Muse Warsame who was together with Mohamed was sentenced to five years.
The two were accused and found guilty of indiscriminately opening fire at the Istar and her sister Faduma Mohamed Abdulle. Istar succumbed to the bullet attack while Faduma survived but with injuries.
The court compelled Warsame to compensate the family of Faduma for the harm inflicted on their children. The two officers have one month to appeal the case.
