Despite the significant drop of the overall humanitarian funding to Somalia in 2017, donors continued to provide strong support tothe SHF in response to the humanitarian needs in 2018.

Germany ($13.6) was the top donor second year in a row, followed by Sweden ($9.8), United Kingdom (UK) ($6.4) and Norway ($5.2).

Other donors were the Netherlands, Denmark, Ireland, Australia, Canada, Switzerland and the Republic of Korea.

In the first half of 2018, $24.6 million of funds equivalent to 45 percent were received, allowing early support in sustaining famine-prevention efforts.

The total SHF contribution of $54.3 million amounted to 6 per cent of $885 million Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP) funding received in 2018 and close to 4 per cent of the total $1.54 billion HRP requirement.

Humanitarian partners have warned that the improvements in the food security situation made in 2018 are under threat due to the delayed start of the 2019 Gu rains coupled with harsh Jilaal weather conditions which are building on already dry conditions due to consecutive failed rainy season.
