Two killed after suspected Somali bandits attack Mwingi village

Suspected Somali bandits on Tuesday killed two people in Mwingi during a fight over grazing areas.

Police said five camels were also slashed to death and several houses torched during the attack.

"More officers have been deployed to the area to maintain law and order," an officer said.

Six people have been killed since December following fights over pasture as the drought persists.

On December 24, bandits posing as herders gunned down a man in Katangini, Ukasi, Mwingi East.

Days later, they shot dead two other herders in Inyanzae area of Ukasi.

The attackers are said to have invaded Kitui county from Tana River.In January, suspected Somali bandits killed one person in Mwingi.

Kilungu Misyili was shot in the chest at around 6 pm at his home in Sosoma area.

Elizabeth Kyalo, a neighbour, said she heard gunshots on her way to Misyili's home.
