Fadumo who joined the Somali police force in 1971 has held various positions over the years, her last post as head of a SPF Community Policing unit. She is the first women in the police force to ascend to the rank of Colonel, a feat she takes great pride in.

“I take this opportunity to thank the commander of the police force as he gives (opportunities) back to Somali women. He is an individual who serves justice. The policewomen are few in number in the past but they are beginning to increase. There are almost 1,000 policewomen currently in uniform.” Colonel Fadumo said.

Fadumo Mohamed wasn’t the only policewomen to be promoted during the ceremony. Both Idil Abdullahi Hassan and Rahma Salad Mohamed have both been promoted to Captain.

Police Commander Mohamed Sheikh Hassan said those policewomen who were promoted have shown exemplary dedication and skill in their role as officers and that their promotion was strictly on merit alone.
