A primary school security guard was killed on Monday night when a gunfight erupted between Al Shabab gunmen and police officers guarding the residence of Governor Ali Roba.
The security was reportedly killed by a stray bullet during the melee.
The militants are said to have been planning an attack before the police began exchanging gunfire with them.
Residents of the town report hearing gunshots and explosions throughout the night.
