Cab driver from Somalia paralyzed in shooting

LOUISVILLE, Ky. —Community activist Chris 2X said a Yellow Cab driver who was shot in Louisville’s Parkland neighborhood is paralyzed.

The shooting happened on Hale Avenue early Thursday morning. So far no arrest has been made.

2X said the Somalian community released a photo of the driver,  Abdiarahman Gelle Mohamed, who has been in the U.S. since 2007.

The Somalian community has scheduled a news conference Sunday afternoon.

Meanwhile, Yellow Cab is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case.

The company released a statement announcing the reward, saying, "Yellow Cab is a long standing locally owned business and believes our drivers’ safety is paramount.

"We provide a service to the citizens of Louisville; our drivers must feel safe when traveling throughout our city, the senseless acts of violence must come to an end.

"Yellow Cab is working hand in hand with the LMPD to uncover any information on the person(s) responsible for the shooting. Yellow Cab drivers work throughout the city and around the clock to provide for their families. They should feel safe doing their job.

"Our drivers are hardworking Louisvillians, they are your neighbors, their children go to school with your children, they attend your church. If you know something please come forward. Yellow Cab is committed to contributing to the safety of our city. Anyone with information is asked to contact LMPD at 502-574-5673."
