The angry protestors gathered near the beach Thursday, carrying placards condemning l Shabab;s attack on the restaurant.

“They massacred civilians only – we are united and will overcome them.” said Ahmed Ali, one of the protestors.

The l-Qaeda linked Al Shabab group claimed the responsibility for the attack,, saying it targeted government officials .

“They are in their final leg thus it’s the time to eliminate them,” said Yusuf Hussein Jimale, Mogadishu mayor who attended the protests
of Al Shabab.

Despite losing most of their key strongholds to the allied African Union and Somali troops, Al Shabab continues attacks across Somalia.

The group’s fighters  have overrun an African Union army base on January 19, killing scores of soldiers and looted the base.

Al Shabab claimed it killed 100 soldiers in the attack. Kenyan government declined to give the figures of causalities on its troops.
