Jalalaqsi district commissioner injured in Al-Shabaab attack

Beled Weyne (HOL) - Jalalaqsi district commissioner, Mohamed Abdulle Fiidow was injured when his convoy was attacked by Al-Shabaab on Jawhar-Jalalaqsi road this afternoon.

One of his bodyguards was killed in the exchange of gun fire. At the time of the attack the commissioner's convoy left Jowhar on their way to Jalalaqsi.

Earlier on, there were reports that the commissioner, Mohamed Abdulle Fiidow died in the attack but he later spoke to the BBC Somali service and said he only sustained a minor injury in the attack.

Although Al-Shabaab has not immediately claimed responsibility, it carries out similar attacks against government and military officials in areas including Hiiraan and Middle Shabelle.
