Chinese business group seek new investment in Eastern Africa

A group of Chinese investors are visiting Kenya this week to scout for prospects of investment in the East Africa nation.The investors on Sunday night held talks with former Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka and ex-Prime Minister Raila Odinga in Nairobi.

During the meeting, the two opposition leaders extended their warm welcome to the billionaire delegation to Kenya which are visiting the Maasai Mara on Monday to witness seventh wonder of the world, the wild beast migration.

"Kenya is the gateway to the East African Market so when you invest your money in this country, you are assured of an East African Market, so please come and set your headquarters in this great country," Musyoka said in a statement welcoming the delegation.

Kenya is also a major beneficiary of Chinese-funded infrastructure projects like superhighways, railway network and seaports.

The East Africa’s largest economy has a cordial relationship with China whose benefits are being felt across socio-economic spheres.

Chinese investments in Kenya’s infrastructure, manufacturing and mining sectors had ripple effects in the region.

Musyoka is the Honorary Chairman of World Eminent Chinese Businessmen Association (WECBA), a group of businessmen with diverse investments across the globe.

The team led by Lu Junqing is in the country for three days where they will hold various meeting with potential partners in different fields including real estate, agriculture trade, energy and mining and steel production among others.

WECBA through the China-Africa Hope project, the philanthropist wing of the organization has donated and built 20 schools to African, 10 of which where donated to Kenya through Kalonzo Musyoka Foundation (KMF) in 2011.

Four schools are located in n Mwingi and six in Kisii County, as they have greatly improved the education standards of the areas mentioned.

The China- Africa Hope project Secretary General Jenniffer Lu visited and toured the schools last week accompanied by the KMF patron Musyoka.

The delegation is also expected to visit South Africa, Namibia, Zambia and the United Arab Emirates in this second leg of their African visit dubbed "the Second Entrepreneurs Charity Journey to Africa."
