Uganda Opposition leaders who visited their Kenyan counterparts to discuss winning elections should have consulted the state instead, the DP has said.

“How can the Opposition from Uganda travel to Kenya to seek help from their counterparts on how to win an election and yet they are all losers?" quipped William Ruto.

“They should have come to consult us on how to win an election if they were serious in their mission."

The team from Uganda met Cord leader Raila Odinga on October 4 for views on fielding a joint presidential candidate against President Yoweri Museveni in the 2016 general election.

Raila, who invited the eladers, is expected to mediate and implore the leaders on the need to field one candidate to face Museveni, who has been in power since 1986.

Ruto said the Jubilee administration and Uganda's ruling party, the National Resistance Movement, share a vision aimed at development and unity.

He spoke at Kaunda grounds in Gulu district on Friday during celebrations to marks Uganda's 53rd independence day anniversary.

Ruto said Kenya and Uganda will ensure energy and infrastructure projects are implemented to reduce business costs and create jobs.

“We are going to implement the reforms being introduced in the EAC region to create more jobs for the people,” he said, adding that peace and stability will also be maintained.

“I want to assure the people of Uganda that Kenya is ready and willing to work with your leaders in ensuring peace and stability."

The DP asked EAC leaders to redirect their focus to issue-based politics, saying animonsity should be abandoned and lives improved.

“It is time leaders in this EAC region discouraged politics based on race, religion or region,” he said.

Politics should not be an avenue for dividing the people but for solving their problems, Ruto said, noting that many African countries have lagged behind because of divisive politics.

Ruto urged the people to take advantage of integration and exploit existing business opportunities to transofrm their lives.

Museveni said the countries will expand their markets to increase business opportunities.

“Kenya has made remarkable progress in the energy sector and we are going to work together in implementing projects aimed at helping the people," he said.

Endebes MP Robert Pukose and Kenya’s Ambassador to Uganda Geoffrey Okanga accompanied the DP.
