Ethiopia Walia Ibex coach Yohannes Sahle has his work cut out when they his side plays Somalia in a Group A game at the Hawassa Kenema stadium today.
Ethiopia, who are the hosts, need a win to give back their adoring fans hope and playing against a Somalia side that conceded four goals against Tanzania.
“I have urged my players not to underrate Somalia even though they conceded more goals in their first match. We lost narrowly to Rwanda and I believe we have the capacity to make a comeback and still be in contention for the Cecafa title. We are ready for the challenge today and I believe the players will rise up to the occasion and give the fans something to smile about,” Sahle told supersport.com.
Ethiopia have been rebuilding their team since Sahle took over earlier in the year from the golden generation that played in the 2003 Africa Cup of Nations.
Young players like Ashcalew Girma,Gatoch Panom, Ashalew Tamene, Ramkel Lol have been able to make an impact and they are the only other side apart from Uganda Cranes that will represent the region in the 2016 Chan to be hosted by Rwanda.
However skipper Salhadin Bargicho is unsure to start after suffering a thigh injury in the first game.
Somalia Ugandan coach Charles Mbambazi will need a miracle to recover from the beating received from Tanzania even though his players led by captain Ali Hassan Babay,Mahad Muhudin and Abdikarim Abdalla battled gamely.
“We are facing a very tough side in Ethiopia but I have analysed our mistakes in the first game and I believe today will be a different ball game. I have told my players to play cautiously but aggressive infront of goals or else we will be beaten on counter attacks,” Somalia coach Mbambazi told supersport.com.
