Germany doesn’t often grant citizenship for Somalis, nor would it deport them for illegal stay due to the security situation in Somalia. The majority are granted temporary residency, with no fixed date for their departure.

The development comes at the backdrops of thousands of desperate Somalis fleeing to Europe and America in an anticipation of a better life and job opportunities. However, many of them end up in refugee camps, while others choose to return home which they believed could offer better opportunities.

With no jobs, financial motivations or citizenships, many get stuck in countries they would no longer willing to stay as European laws, however, make it illegal for asylum seekers to relocate within the EU.
