A section of political leaders from North Eastern Kenya have told off Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery who two days ago accused them of not naming the Al Shabaab militias as they had promised saying that they owe nobody any form of a list.

Speaking in Garisa town while issuing Uwezo Fund cheques, the leaders - led by National Assembly leader of majority Aden Duale – said that they do not report to Nkaissery and that the production of the list was voluntary.

Duale, who was speaking for the first time about the list since his announcement a month ago that the local leadership will produce the financers and sympathizers of Al Shabaab, said that  the leadership of North Eastern Kenya had made serious recommendations to the President.

He added that North Eastern Parliamentary Group including ministers, have a responsibility of leading the residents and Kenyans at large in working with the government to ensure terrorists are defeated.

Duale said the appointment of Mohamed Swaleh as the regional Coordinator was one of the recommendations they gave to the President.

His announcement that the leaders would name and shame Al Shabaab financiers followed after four gunmen suspected to be members of the Somalia-based terror group stormed Garissa University College killing at least 148 people and leaving scores injured.

Ijara Member of Parliament Ahmed Abass said that as leaders from the region, they will not present any list of Al Shabaab militants and their sympathizers to Nkaissery.

Wajir West MP Abdikadir Ore on his part said that the militants had now become desperate and were invading remote villages with an aim of radicalizing more youth.
