Ethiopia’s Federal Police Commission announced that it is working with the International Criminal Police Organization, Interpol, for the extradition of 80 human traffickers. The commission has reportedly been seizing the properties and assets of the traffickers and detaining their collaborators.
The commission has been working with Interpol in identifying human traffickers living abroad, Deputy Commander Wondimu Chama, Head of Illegal Human Trafficking Crime Investigation Division of the Commission, was quoted as saying.
"Due to the complex nature of the crime, the commission is integrating its efforts with Interpol, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other institutions," he indicated.
The federal police have managed to get extradited 5 suspects from Kenya, Sudan, Saudi Arabia and Tanzania, and brought them to court over the past ten months.
200 suspects were also apprehended for money laundering at home, and are on trial, the commander pointed out.
