A visitor to Calgary is thankful she caught a ride in Mohammad Khawaja’s Associated Cab.
He picked her up at the airport late Wednesday afternoon and drove her to the Delta Bow Valley. When she arrived she thought she had all her belongings. It turns out she left a bag in the back seat. It contained a laptop and $10 thousand dollars cash.
She was Khawaja’s last fare of the night. A few hours later, Khawaja found the bag. “I feel bad for the lady and for myself and I wondered why didn’t I see the bag in the car?”
He reported it to his dispatcher and they got to work to try to track down the owner but they counhdlt find her. The search resumed the next day and they were able to track her down
“I was able to contact them,” says Associated Cabs supervisor Roger Richard. “I had the driver go and meet them in the hotel lobby to return the bag with all its contents.”
The woman was so thankful she gave Khawaja the biggest tip he’s ever received. “She gave me 800 dollars which I declined. I said I was just doing my job.” The woman insisted so he kept it.
Khawaja says what makes him happiest about the whole affair is how proud his children are of their Dad.
