When he finished high school last year and won a scholarship to do medicine at the International University of Africa, Mohamed Abdalla, 19, was sure nothing would stand on his way.

He wanted to actualise his dream of becoming a doctor and serve humanity as well as liberate his family from poverty.

With less than 15 days remaining, Abdalla is still unable to acquire a national ID.

He spoke yesterday at a Nubian Rights Forum in Nairobi.

Abdalla said after completing form four, he applied for an ID and got the waiting card in December.

“Since then I have made more than a 1,000 trips to the DC’s office hoping to get the document,” Abdalla said.

He is expected to report at the Khartoum university on 20th of this month.

Forum chairman Shafi Ali said they have been trying to intervene on his behalf with no much success.

He said denial and delayed issuance of IDs, especially to Muslims, is rampant.

National Registration Bureau director Reuben Kimotho denied any discriminatory policies against any applicants.
