SEATTLE -- A man walking home from a funeral in Seattle was shot and killed Friday afternoon.

The victim's mom said Zakariya Issa was leaving a funeral for a friend who was shot and killed earlier this week in Federal Way when he was murdered in a drive-by shooting.

The murdered happened at 44th and South Cloverdale. So far Seattle police have not made any arrests.

Zakariya's mom, Faucia Mohumud, was on the phone with her son when she heard the gunshots.

"I heard shot, shot, shot. I heard the gun three times," Mohamud said. "I heard the shots, then the phone went dead, and he didn't talk to me anymore."

Mohamud said that earlier in the week her house was shot up with several bullets. Friday afternoon she met with the Seattle Housing Authority, who said her son was in danger because of his "bad friends."

She called him right after the meeting, shortly after his friend's funeral got out. That's when he was killed while talking with her on the phone.

"He said, 'Mom, I never talk to bad people," Mohamud said. "He said, mom that is not true."

Homicide detectives, crime scene investigators and the SPD Gang Unit were going over the scene and searching for witnesses in the area.

Neighbors in the South Seattle community are frustrated with some of the recent shootings.

"There's been three shootings here in the last month. Everybody's worried about their safety over here," neighbor Bill Moliga said. "My kids had to see somebody dead today."

Anyone with information in this case is asked to call the Homicide/Assault tip line at (206)233-5000.
