Mogadishu, Somalia (HOL) -Somali forces backed by AMISOM tanks have entered the central Somalia town of Jalalaqsi after Islamist militant, Al-Shabaab vacated it.
Town retaken by AU and Somali forces would be the third one the insurgents use to have a strong force in the central Somalia region of Hiiraan.
"Our forces didn't meet any resistance from Al-Shabaab fighters, they fled the area after we advanced," senior military commander with AMISOM said.
A reporter with the AU & Somali forces confirmed to HOL that there were no clashes inside Jalalaqsi and as a result the situation is calm.
Civilians remained the town in the face of the alliance forces advance in the last couple of days and some of them told the local media that Al-Shabaab fighters pulled out from the town.
Al-Shabaab didn't issue any statement about the capture of Jalalaqsi town which is the first place AMISOM and Somali forces captured in the Hiiraan region since second phase military offensive dubbed " Operation Indian ocean" begun.
