City of Minneapolis News Release

Oct. 17, 2014 (MINNEAPOLIS) As in past years, students in Minneapolis will get a chance to experience first-hand what voting is like. The City of Minneapolis Elections & Voter Services division, in partnership with the Minneapolis Public Schools, will be taking part in Kids Voting Minneapolis. The program gives K-12 students the opportunity to go to the polls with their parents on Election Day and cast their own ballots.

On Election Day, students across the city can join their parents as they go to vote. Each polling place will have a voting booth specifically for Kids Voting Minneapolis, where students will make choices on their own ballots. Like their parents, they’ll each get an “I voted” sticker once they’re done. The goal is to give kids an educational experience that will help them understand the important right and responsibility of voting in this democracy.

Volunteers needed

Kids Voting Minneapolis needs 300 community volunteers to help out on Election Day. These volunteers will staff the 125 city precinct polling places in Minneapolis and assist students as they vote. All volunteers will go through an hour-long training session and will take at least one three-hour shift (either 2-5 p.m. or 5-8 p.m.) on Election Day,

Anyone interested in volunteering should fill out an online form or contact Sarah Williams, the Kids Vote Minneapolis coordinator, at Sarah Williams atsarah@kidsvotingminneapolis.org.
