At least 200 displaced Somali families living in the Elasha Biyaha neighbourhood outside Somali capital Mogadishu have benefitted from cash aid donated to them by Hormuud foundation.
The IDPs fled from the town of Qoryooley and surrounding villages due to recent armed confrontations between Al Shabab militants and Somali government forces backed by African Union peacekeepers in the country (AMISOM)
This was the second such cash aid to be delivered to the needy people in recent weeks, according to Hormuud foundation Chief Abdullahi Nur Osman who said that his agency had already helped nearly 300 displaced people who are living in the region.
“Hormuud is a commercial company, but we have decided to help the needy people as much as we can” Mr. Osman said adding that his company is using some of its profits for helping the vulnerable people who displaced from their homes.
In reaction to the donation, the displaced families said they were very grateful to the local company for the cash donation. The IDPs expressed that the donation coincided with a time they were very much in need of humanitarian assistance.
The town of Qoryooley fell into the hands of Somali government forces and AU peacekeepers in March this year, but the town has been besieged by the Al-Qadea-linked Al Shabab militants since then and as a result thousands of families displaced from the town and surrounding villages.
