MOGADISHU – The Somalia government is leading a campaign to put a stop to high levels of rape and sexual abuse in the country.
According to the UN, 800 cases of sexual and gender-based violence were recorded in Mogadishu alone during the first six months of last year.
In 2012 at least 1,700 cases were recorded across 500 camps for internally displaced people in the capital.
Somalia has been consulting with civil society and the UN in a bid to address this challenge.
