Reports reaching from the city of Beledweyn, the provincial capital of the central Hiiraan region indicate that unidentified assailants have shot and killed a university professor and the Imam of Al-Nur Mosque Sheik Abdulkader Ibrahim Magan.
The Imam was killed by three young boys armed with pistols as he left from the mosque after performing the Tarawiix prayers before midnight last night.
A relative who spoke to HOL by telephone on the condition of anonymity said that they didn’t know about the reason for the targeted assassination against the Imam who was also one of the key university professors in the region.
Hundreds of students taught by the slain Imam have occupied mosques in the city early on Sunday morning to pray for him.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the assassination of the Imam.
